Annual Anglers Draw

Tickets will be available soon for our annual anglers draw, with a great variety of prizes already in place. Plan to get your tickets soon, with the draw scheduled for late April. And, we have some new items and trips planned for this year's draw: more information to come soon. Tickets are planned  to be available  mid-March.

Annual Dinner set for May 8

Our always-popular annual dinner is planned for May 8 at Saint Mark's Parish Hall in Quispamsis. The event begins at 6:30  with a smoked samlmon reception, follwed by a roast beef dinner. We will have a variety of fundraising activities, including a live and a silent auction. Look for great items ranging from high-quality angling trips to art, tackle and flies. As well, we always have a great selection of jewelery on the Ladies Raffle table. Tickets are available at the centre, or from your committee members. See you there!

Annual General Meeting Wednesday, financial statements available

HRAA's AGM took place Wednesday Feb 24 at 7 p.m. Remember that your memberships need to be paid for 2010 for you to be able to vote.  As well, our financial statements for 2009 are complete and are available if you’d like to review them before the meeting. Members can request a copy to be sent to them by email.

Warren Duncan Bursary

At our annual meeting each year, we offer an aspiring young student a bursary in memory of long-time friend of the HRAA, Warren Duncan. We're pleased to announce this year's recipient: Dax Hooper. Dax played a leading role in our Kids 'r' Cool for Conservation summer camp last year. And, many of you had a chance to meet her at last year's dinner, where she volunteered to help make the event a success. Great luck with your studies, Dax, and hope to have you back with us again this summer!

Summer Employment and Experience Development (SEED) Program

Just a reminder that students should be aware of the SEED program, and register for possible summer employment through the NB Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour. The HRAA hires students for our summer programs via SEED. Any students now in Grade 12, and planning to attend university in the fall of 2010 may be eligible (as well as students currently attending university). But, there have been some program changes and students wishing to work with the HRAA need to send us a resume, as well as registering on-line with SEED. We'll send more reminders when the application deadlines are approaching.

Harry Pickrell's Fly Tying and Fly Casting Courses

Harry Pickrell's fly tying and fly casting courses are set to begin Thursday Feb 11 at the Dennis Morris Community Centre in west Saint John. Fly tying courses will run Feb 11, 18 and 25 and March 4, 11 and 18. The casting courses run March 25 and April 1 and 8, ending just in time for you to take your new skills to the river. The course is free for HRAA members. Courses begin each evening at 7 p.m.

Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum

Mark your calendars for the popular Dieppe Fly Fishing Forum, scheduled for March 27 at the Dieppe Community College, sponsored by our good friends in the Dieppe Fly Tying Club. This is always a great event to promote the sport of fly tying, and includes fly tyers working their craft, and a great variety of booths from outfitters, suppliers and organizations like the HRAA. Our booth there is always well attended, and a great spot to promote the sale of our Annual Anglers Draw tickets. Volunteers are needed!
As well, the NB Salmon Council and Atlantic Salmon Federation will be hosting the annual Moncton dinner on March 27th in the evening, more details to come!

Kayak Fishing Tournament

We have a kayak fishing tournament planned on the lower Hammond River this summer. A dedicated new member, JC Cormier, is organizing the logistics, planned for the July 24-25 weekend. The event has a different focus: the key to winning is the most individual species, not the size or quantity of fish. The event will be open to canoes and other non-motorized craft, and will emphasize live release. If you're interested in attending, log into the forums at NewBrunswickFishing.com to let our organizers know you're planning to attend. JC is leveraging the votes to entice sponsors, so be sure to vote if you are planning to enter. And, our dedicated organizer JC Cormier already has some sponsors lined up for the event!  Stay tuned for more details as the event unfolds! We have some interesting prizes already lined up for the event, including a Peek-a-boo kayak (with a unique plexiglass bottom) and a high-quality fish finder!

We’ve just added the registration form and rules to our website, which can be found on our downloads page.

Fish 'n' Jam every Wednesday Evening at 7pm

The HRAA Fish 'n' Jam continues every Wednesday evening at 7pm. It's a great way for new members to get involved with our programs. Many thanks to Roy Macmillan for his continued efforts to make this event a success. And, our fly-tyers are back at the vice again, preparing for next year's season. Its a great opportunity to learn from our very own Andy Dollar, a master fly tyer for both salmon and trout patterns. Here's a good chance to meet with local tyers and learn more about the art of fly tying. This is an evening of local musical talent, and fly-tying. Hope to see you there!

In the event of foul winter weather this event will be canceled.
