  • Visual Salmon Assessments: Experienced and novice spotters help assess adult salmon in the river prior to spawning.
  • Broodstock Collection: A team of volunteers collect adults to provide eggs for Educational programs, and help with a tagging program.
  • Black Salmon Protection: Anglers experienced with salmon provide vigilance and assistance to others who may be unaware of necessary protection for Kelts or over–wintered adult salmon.

Summer Positions:

Post-Secondary Seasonal Staff:
HRAA hires university and college students for seasonal summer-time work. Contact the HRAA office to learn more about available camp and enviro-tech positions through federal and provincially-funded SEED programs.

Counsellors In Training Program:
Every summer, HRAA accepts high school volunteers for an intensive 3-week session, to assist with Kids-R-Cool camps. Student work in roles requiring responsibility, helping the staff guide campers in kayaking, fishing and swimming activities. CIT experience is an excellent lead-in to future counsellor work at any camp!

Environmental Leadership Course:

HRAA hosts high school students in an intensive 3-week enviro-tech training course. Stay tuned for more details- dependant on available funding.
Hello Friends of the St. John River!
You're invited to the first of an up-coming series of sessions in communities along the St. John River. The first session will take place 7 p.m. Monday Nov. 14 at the Hammond River Angling Association Building, 10 Porter Road in Nauwigewauk. Sponsored by the NB Conservation Council, Canadian Rivers Institute and WWF Canada, the session will be an opportunity for you to be part of a discussion about the newly released State of the Environment Report on the river. It will give you a chance to share your knowledge of the river, and to connect with each other to help make future positive changes throughout the system.
