Seemingly untouched riparian zones are easy to find in the upper Hammond River watershed.  Here, in Hanford Brook, farmland is the biggest threat to riparian zones and the impact of a fractured riparian zone has an effect downstream.

Seemingly untouched riparian zones are easy to find in the upper Hammond River watershed. In Hanford Brook, agriculture is the biggest threat to riparian zones.  Fractured riparian zones  can effect downstream water quality.

The floodplains of the Hammond River are vast and beautiful, speckled with old growth trees such as silver maple.  By filtering & storing water, wetlands play an important role in maintaining water quality in brooks and rivers.  Wetlands are also are the most productive & bio-diverse ecosystems in our watershed.
