That feeling you get when you've finally found some juvenile Atlantic Salmon!!!

Our field staff have once again partnered with the awesome Wolastoq Genomics Team. This team includes DFO, the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Maliseet Nation Conservation Council, Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy Programs, UNB, the US Environmental Protection Agency, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, US Fish and Wildlife Services, and the Maine Division of Marine Resources.

Last year, we were able to pass the target of 30 Atlantic Salmon tissue samples from the Hammond River. This year, we are working towards collecting tissue samples from the Kennebecasis River, Canaan River, and we'll hopefully spend some time on the Meduxnekeag River too!

This project will greatly increase our understanding of the evolution of the Wolastoq salmon population, as well as the genetic differences between populations above and below the Mactaquac Dam, and will guide future stocking initiatives.
