September 5th, 2022 - Mussel Monday - Zebra Mussel

Mussel Monday Keep an eye out for these!!! While zebra mussels have yet to be documented in New Brunswick, they are present in Ontario. They are often called "most troublesome freshwater biofouling organism in North America", zebra mussels will outcompete native mussels. They can destroy boat motors, and boat launches, and their fecal material may also contribute to taste and odor problems in drinking water sources. What can you do to help? If you see one of these, report it ASAP! Also remember to always Clean, Drain, Dry your boats, waders, and other aquatic equipment to avoid potential spread of invasive aquatic species!
