Watch your step!!

Skunk Cabbage was in bloom this spring! This is one of the first plants that emerges in Spring, as it is thermogenic- it generates heat in order to get an early growing start in Spring!

As its name suggests, skunk cabbage is quite smelly if stepped on. While it repels humans, its funky odor attracts bees and butterflies.

Skunk Cabbage has a Provincial rarity ranking of S2- this species is imperiled, and very vulnerable to extinction. The Hammond River watershed is one of the few, last places in NB where you can find this plant!
