Camp Director Job Posting


The Hammond River Nature Camp has an opening for a Summer Day Camp Director. This is a five-month position that would be a perfect summer job for a mature student while getting some valuable quantifiable experience. Maybe you are a parent who wants the ability to work for the summer and have the flexibility of having your children enrolled in the summer camp at no cost to you.


POSITION SUMMARY: The Camp Director will oversee most aspects of staffing, programming, and camper relations for our summer camp season. The director is accountable for the overall management of the program and is specifically responsible for personnel management, program development and health and safety management. The director will oversee up to 40 campers each week, ranging in age from 5-12 years old, while supervising and coaching up to 20 Camp Counsellors and Counsellors in Training. This position is approximately 5 months duration, beginning April 15th until September 15th (flexible). The director will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday.


  • Develop and coordinate Camp programs and activities for a safe, engaging and high-quality summer program.

  • Promote the camp (social media, flyers, etc…).

  • Provide organizational and programmatic support as necessary.

  • Oversee hiring and training of all summer camp staff.

  • Oversee camp recruitment and registration.

  • Managing camper information and groupings.

  • Address crisis management, discipline and troubleshooting issues related to campers and/or staff.

  • Assist in determining supply and equipment needs and in ordering/purchasing.

  • Support and supervise counsellors in organizing, implementing, decision-making and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain a positive team atmosphere that includes campers, families, camp and office staff, and volunteers.

  • Schedule, supervise and evaluate program staff, including Lead Counsellors, Counsellors and CITs; providing support and disciplinary measures when necessary.

  • Assist in the evaluation of the camp itself, as well as the camp experience for youth participants. 

  • Create a summary of camp at the end of the season.

  • Directing staff training and weekly planning meetings.

  • Maintaining fiscal records and working within a budget.

  • Interacting with parents, campers, staff and administration as needed.


  • Experience in youth education preferred.

  • Knowledge of fishing, conservation initiatives and environment and the ability to apply such knowledge to various programs.

  • Must possess excellent inter-personal, written, oral communication and public speaking skills.

  • Proficiency in operating a variety of standard office equipment including computers and audio-visual equipment.

  • Ability to speak comfortably in front of groups both small and large.

  • Strong skills in full suite of Microsoft Office products– Power Point, Excel, Word and Outlook.

  • Must pass Vulnerable sector background check to work with youth.
