WETLAND INVASIVE PLANTS
Let's learn about some invasive plants that can cause damage to the environment!
Invasive Species
In New Brunswick, invasive plant species pose a significant threat to native ecosystems. Species like purple loosestrife, Japanese knotweed, and glossy buckthorn outcompete local flora, disrupt habitats, and often out-compete native species for resources. These invaders not only diminish biodiversity but also impact agriculture, forestry, and infrastructure. There are currently many efforts to combat these species but you can always provide your help and even just your ears to spread awareness.
It is imperative that when decisions are made regarding what species of trees, flowers, and plants are planted in gardens and fields, we make sure that we’re planting as many native species as possible and avoiding invasive species as much as we can.
